Allaire School
Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Organizational Skills
Our
goal is to teach children to compensate for their learning disabilities,
to become independent learners, to be good citizens and to become productive,
creative members of our society. Students must have average to above
or gifted intelligence.
The Allaire School provides a calm, caring, yet structured atmosphere
which contributes to the students' ability to focus on tasks and
to build independent learning skills. Students are taught "tricks"
which help them compensate for their learning discrepancies. These
techniques are based upon a psychoneurologic approach. Organizational
and time management skills are learned, and computers are used to
teach word processing and some math skills. The first change we
observe is the child's sense of relief, that finally, teachers understand
how they learn. As skill levels are mastered and independently used,
their self esteem rises. Our students form a close knit group, supporting
and encouraging each other with comradery and good sportsmanship.
